Award-winning engagement campaign using social techniques delivered on SharePoint

The brief

Help drive broad awareness of the company’s values and get employees to embrace them:

  • Our client wanted to find a way for employees in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) to understand and engage with their new company values.
  • We advised on an employee awards campaign – where staff recognised the good work of their colleagues by nominating them if they had demonstrated the values.
  • This recognised a natural social behaviour that people would take the time and trouble to understand the values if they were asked to apply them to a colleague.

Our approach

A fun SharePoint intranet with social features to drive employee engagement:

  • We designed a social intranet in SharePoint 2007, where employees could make nominations using a text form or a video and like and comment on nominations – with an additional prize for the nomination that received the most likes.
  • Healthy competition came from an interactive map that split the number of nominations. 
  • To launch the campaign we created a fun animation using the senior leadership team- whose cartoon characters acted as mascots for the campaign.
  • Following launch we kept momentum with an email campaign – a weekly newsletter with nomination of the week and tips for nominating to help increase your likes.

The result

An unrivalled success that became a company benchmark, led the way for future campaigns and received backing from global bosses:

  • 100% of employees visited the site throughout the campaign.
  • The Company Group Chairman commended the programme and set it as a worldwide company benchmark for employee engagement and rewards and recognition.
  • Users embraced the social features – with over 1,000 likes from the 1,700 employees.
