Student Internship: Junior web developer
NOTE: Please do not apply for this role unless you are a student looking for a year in industry placement. This is not a full salaried position.
Who are you?
You are a bright individual with a personable nature, highly organized and like working with others from different countries and backgrounds. Either as part of your studies and/or commercial experience, you have worked on websites and/or intranets where you were responsible for building web pages (preferably business-to-business) and website maintenance. This means:
- You are capable of coding the layout of web sites in HTML and CSS
- You possess careful attention to detail
- You have good examples of your work, either from your studies or other work experience
- You have a broad set of skills and are always working to improve and learn
- You have a good understanding of the key principles of web design including user interface, usability, accessibility, and web standards.
Specific Software and Design Skills
- HTML & CSS – good
- JavaScript - good
- PHP - some experience preferable
- MySQL - some experience preferable
- JQuery (JavaScript library) - some experience preferable
- AJAX – some experience preferable
- Content Management Systems – some experience of using CMS is preferable, particularly Microsoft SharePoint.
Roles and Responsibilities
You will be working on existing internet and intranet sites as a junior web designer reporting to the Studio Manager. Your duties will include:
- Creating page layouts using HTML & CSS
- Publishing and uploading content to the sites using a CMS
- Coding interactive elements on web pages
- Programming functionality for websites/intranets using frontend and backend technologies
- JQuery (JavaScript library) - some experience preferable
- Creating and sending HTML newsletters to website users
- Performing various project tasks in support of your manager.
