An intranet-in-a-box on SharePoint 2013 on premise

How Content Formula enabled fast deployment of a new Intranet that included a searchable database of all care facilities across the country

The brief

  • Housing & Care 21 is a leading national provider of retirement housing and care services for older people.
  • They were struggling with an ageing SharePoint 2010 intranet, which was difficult to navigate and full of outdated content.
  • A key requirement was to provide staff with access to guidance on what to do in different scenarios – without having to have intimate knowledge of the structure of the organisation.
  • In addition to forms, policies, news, announcements, photos and events – It was important that the intranet provided searchable information about all of the care homes across the country.

Our approach

  • We recommended our ready-to-go SharePoint intranet solution. This could be built and deployed in just a few weeks and provide a wealth of common intranet functionality within a highly attractive and usable interface.
  • Because they had already carried out the research beforehand, Housing & Care 21 provided us with their own research findings and wireframe drafts.
  • We turned this into recommendations for configuration and a custom look and feel.We deployed the intranet on SharePoint 2013 on premise – our solution works with on premise SharePoint as well as SharePoint Online (as part of Office 365).
  • After configuring the intranet for them as planned, we handed over ownership to their internal IT group and provided training for admins and content owners.

The result

  • The launch took 8 weeks from kick-off to sign-off. The intranet is called 'Wilma' and joins their existing HR system - 'Fred'.
  • We love their name choices! The company's staff are enjoying their new search and filtering features, which make things a lot easier to find.
